I would like to thank all the mothers who participated in this morning’s breakfast and those who enthusiastically joined Ms. Carla’s yoga class. For this Sunday, I wish you all a happy “Mother’s Day”.
This week we had some amazing school photo-shoots. I look forward to seeing the individual portraits and group photos of our beautiful students. As soon as the Clorofilla studio is ready, they will be shared with you.
The upcoming weeks are thick with important events: the PYP Grade 6 Exhibition and the PYP Portfolio Conferences, the Grade 11 (MYP 5) e-assessments and the Shakeaspeare Festival for Grade 10 and 11.
I also invite you to follow the wonderful MAY-Creative Month initiatives.

End of Year Exams
At the end of the school year, one can be sure that there are exams just around the corner! The Istituto Comprensivo di Fino Mornasco, our local state school of reference, will once again be the sight for our end of the Elementary cycle and 3rd Year Middle School Italian national exams.
The national intermediary proficiency exams, those that take place at the end of the first and second years of Middle School, will also be held at the Fino Mornasco Middle School.
I have been in contact with the vice principals of elementary and middle schools to define the organizational aspects of this venture and our teachers will have a meeting with their counterpart colleagues to present our students and our various subject programmes.
I am still waiting a written communication of the dates and times for the exams. Indicatively I can report the following:
-The end of primary education national exams will take place in the weeks following the end of the year for the Italian schools – around the middle of June;
– The Italian Middle School Idoneità exams for 1st and 2nd year students are typically held in the first of second weeks of June.
– The Italian National 3rd Year Middle School exams begin immediately following the end of the Italian school year.
In the MYP section, all students enrolled in the International Strand will sit their internal exams following the same timetable as their Italian Strand counterparts.
Exams for Grade 10 (MYP 4 -first year High School) students, will take place between June 5 and June 15.

The purpose of art is not to represent the outward appearance of things, but their inner meaning. (Aristotle)
The arts are a universal form of human expression and a unique way of knowing, which engages us in effective, imaginative and productive activities. Learning through art allows us to explore, shape and communicate our sense of identity and individuality. Focusing on the individual increases self-esteem, resilience and adaptability. It encourages our sense of belonging to the community through identity recognition. During adolescence, the arts provide an age appropriate opportunity for a holistic development of the student’s social, emotional, intellectual and personal intelligence.
In the arts, students have the opportunity to be actively artists, as well as learning the arts. Artists must be curious. By developing curiosity about themselves, others and the world, students become true learners, inquirers and creative problem-solvers. Students grow through the creative process, performance and presentation in a way that engages and transmits sensations, experiences and ideas. It is through this practice that students acquire new skills and master the skills acquired previously. (From the IB Arts guide, September 2014)
In Inspired schools, the Arts are considered one of the three pillars of education and therefore play a central role in personality formation.
Congratulations to our teachers from the Arts and Design department who have worked to create a fun month with weekly themes and several daily events. Each week has a different theme and a different proposal is offered each day. Events occur mainly during breaks, or during certain lesson periods, and those interested in participating can do so whenever possible.
Congratulations to Nazarii, Grade 7 student, winner of our competition! I share with you the beautiful logo he created.
PTA Summer Ball
During the year, our fantastic PTA supported and organized a series of initiatives, both in and out of school, for parents and students. As a culminating and socializing event for our families, the PTA will once again host a gala evening of dinner and dancing. I sincerely thank all the parents who have worked hard on organizing this unique event. I can not wait to see you all at the prestigious Villa Argenta in Figino Serenza on May 31 to share some dances with you!
