It does not seem possible, but a month of school has already flown by. With the third edition of the newsletter I invite you to read about the numerous events that are planned in the coming weeks: three Open Days, an entire week dedicated to Space, our participation at Fiera Young, the United Nations Day … etc.
Happy reading and a good weekend to all,
Ms E. Ferloni
United Nations World Space Week
For some years now, we have been giving more and more attention to the subjects known as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), trying to motivate our students towards scientific studies. This is why we have introduced the United Nations World Space Week to our calendar of events. This celebration of space exploration is a United Nations initiative to mark progress in space exploration and technology. Each year a different theme is chosen and between October 4th and 10th events are organized all over the world. Last year over 5,000 events in over 80 countries celebrated the theme “Space Unites the World”. This year’s fascinating theme is “The Moon: Gateway to Stars“.
The teachers from all of the school’s sections have highlighted links for the various studies and activities suitable for the different ages of the students. During the week the whole school will be committed to this fascinating theme, in one way or another.
The week will end with an assembly with costumes on Friday, October 10th.

Several parents have brought to my attention the difficulties that the delay in the delivery of school uniforms has created. Some have pointed out that they have paid a considerable sum in advance. I fully share your disappointment with the poor service.
I personally contacted the manager of the OVS Company who confirmed the following dates for shipments of missing items.
The first shipments took place on 10th and 29th September. The next delivery of other items is scheduled for October 15th . Everything will be delivered by November 3rd.
I can only invite you to be patient and I apologize for the inconvenience.
On October 21st, 22nd and 23rd we will host our first Open Days of the year.
Normally we organize 4 of these per school year, in order to give interested families every possibility to visit ISC.
In reality, we also welcome specific 1-1 visits on a regular basis; we really do believe that at ISC, everyday is an Open Day.
Monday, October 21st will be reserved for families interested in the Early Years and Elementary while Tuesday, October 22nd will be dedicated to those interested in visiting Middle School and Wednesday, October 23rd Secondary for High School.
During the Open Days we do not organize anything extraordinary or special, as we believe that a real school can felt and appreciated by a real first-hand experience, by seeing up close some of the daily teaching practices, and by meeting and speaking with the professionals who work here. At ISC, we have so many wonderful things that speak for themselves!
If you have friends or family that may be interested in visiting, invite them to contact us for more information on the possibilities to participate in one of the presentations and planned tours.
I would like to remind you to put on your calendar Saturday, November 9th which will be a regular school day for all sections. Classes will be held from 08:30 to 13:45.
Scholastic Orientation Opportunities
Choosing the next step of higher education is one of the most important decisions that can truly affect much of a child’s future. “Young – orienta il tuo futuro” is a regional trade fair specifically dedicated to upcoming high school and university students (www.young.co.it).
There are numerous opportunities to gather information on the various educational proposals, as well as areas dedicated to one-to-one meetings and lectures where Schools and Universities will be presented. The fair is a unique opportunity to meet professionals from the “world of work” and to understand the real employment opportunities in our area as well as the tools needs for communication with companies.
Once again this year we will be actively participating in Young, which will be held at the Lariofiere (fairground) in the city of Erba. Our exhibition space will be open to the public (students, schools and families) on Tuesday October 15th and Wednesday October 17th from 08:30 to 13:30 and from 08:30 to 18:00 on Saturday, October 20th. Ms. Patterson and some of our staff will be there to promote our High School.
For several years, United Nations Day has become a recurring event on our Cultural Calendar. The annual celebration has occurred every October 24 since 1948 and was established to highlight the aims and achievements of the United Nations. United Nations Day has traditionally been marked throughout the world with meetings, discussions and exhibits about the achievements and goals of the organization.
UN Day provides International Schools a great opportunity to celebrate the International make-up of the school community. It gives us the chance to learn a little more about our differences and celebrate what we have in common; it fosters our humanity and desire for peace & harmony in the world.
The parents of the PTA support and organize the event, which is truly a time of celebration for the school, and with everyone’s contribution, it is a significant event for the entire school community. For now, mark your calendars for the afternoon of Thursday, October 24. We will provide you with details in the next newsletter.
