Parent Continuum Workshop
We are delighted to invite our families to our Self Study Workshop on Tuesday, February 5 at 08:50 in the MYP Atrium. The purpose of this parent workshop is to introduce the process of the IB Self Study in which our entire community will be participating in over the upcoming year. The workshop will help parents to understand the different elements of the IB Self Study and to view the Standards and Practices from which the school will be assessed, in PYP and MYP.
This is also an opportunity to join one of the committees responsible for evaluating the school’s progress and to lead the parent contribution to the Self Study. We would be very happy to see as many parents as possible at the meeting. If you are unable to attend but wish to be part of the committee, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Lockett (email@example.com) or Ms Whittle (firstname.lastname@example.org).
On Friday, February 8, our families will receive our MYP or DP Mid-Year Report. This is a summary of learning and achievement at this half way point of the year. Parents will be able to download the report from ManageBac by clicking on the REPORTS tab on the left hand side of the screen:
Step One: Log in to ManageBac: https://iscomo.managebac.com/login
Step Two: Click on the Reports Tab on the left hand side, towards the bottom
Step Three: You will see the report ready to download as a PDF
For ManageBac login issues please email Ms. Riccò: email@example.com
After the publication of our reports on 8 February, you may wish to follow up with individual subject staff regarding questions from the reports and to ask further questions about the learning of your child. These meetings are optional meetings for families.
Our teaching staff will be available through appointment on Monday, 11 February, Tuesday, 12 February and Thursday 14 February. Look out for an e-mail during next week that will enable you to make an appointment through our regular google sheets system. These meetings are optional meetings for those parents who would like further clarification on their child’s report.
Grade 8 and 10: International Schools Assessments (ISA)
From the 18 through 20 February, our Grade 8 and 10 students will participate in an assessment of their Maths, Science and English Writing and Reading Comprehension skills through the International Schools Assessments. This is an opportunity for them to sit in test conditions and to answer a set of questions or to respond to a stimuli for writing.
What is the purpose of the ISA?
- To gain a snapshot of where each child in the class is within the different subject areas
- To gain an understanding of where the whole class level is compared to all schools taking the test
- To help teachers to analyse the current programme and make any adaptations – ISA will produce a document explaining which questions were answered well and which not. Our teachers use this information to reflect to inform teaching and learning
The ISA tests are set over a period of three days and will take place in the morning. Our assessments will begin at 08.45 and, once started, cannot be interrupted by late students.
The results of the ISA usually arrive in early May and will be uploaded to your child’s ManageBac Portfolio. We kindly ask that you keep in mind that not all children will perform well under test conditions. The ISA test is a very small snapshot of where your child is as a learner and is one part of a wider assessment process which includes a whole range of formative and summative assessments. For more information on the assessment tools and strategies you can download the PYP Parent Presentation on Assessment from the Parents Page of ManageBac.
High School Drama production
Putting on a play is not as easy as it looks, it is an exercise in organisation and teamwork, encouragement and discipline, qualities we try to develop in our students at ISC. On Monday, January 28 the first DP CAS High School Drama performance took place in the drama studio. The project was produced and publicised by Gabriel Iturralde and involved the students in a Creative and Service long term project to foster new playwrights. Matilde Ragozzino wrote a comedy piece through devised work with four High School pupils, Directed by Leonardo Riccio. Anais Wyder Piraval wrote and directed her own flash (ie very short) play, an absurdist drama with a comedy twist. Technical support was provided by Filippo Ferloni and Riccardo Sarcone. Stay tuned on the ISC THE TIMES website to see the student’s photos.
The house was full and it was great to see the middle school supporting the DP students so well. They complimented the company, and as the project supervisor, I like to think that a few seeds of ‘I could do that’ were planted in the minds of our future DP students.
These plays have closed, but on Monday we’ll be back in the studio, planning for the next event, which will open during creative month in May.
Bravo and encore if you please!
Grade 11 Personal Project Exhibition
Grade 11 is excited to invite you to the Personal Project Exhibition in the MYP Atrium on Thursday, February 7 between 14:15 and 16:00. This is one of the culminating events of the MYP, and is an opportunity for students to share their learning and their passions with the school community.
The Personal Project is a piece of independent research and creation which students complete in Grade 11. They choose their project, carry out research, create a product or work to achieve an outcome and write a final report which will be assessed internally but moderated by the IB.
The Personal Project Exhibition is an opportunity for us to celebrate with the students the accomplishment of an important milestone in their IB journey.
