Welcome to the next edition of the PYP Blog!

Reading Eggs

reading eggs

Some children are making wonderful use of Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress at school and at home. The programme really does make a positive difference to your child’s reading, their comprehension and grammar acquisition. There are over 3000 books in the online Library too. So far since starting Reading Eggs in 2018 we have read 1,300 books as a school. Can we double that by February Half Term? Let’s see! If you are unsure of your child’s password please ask your Homeroom Teacher.

Dance Lessons – Uniform

I would kindly remind you that from Grade 1-4 the children have one dance lesson per week and in Grade 5-6 they take this as an optional course. For dance, children should be wearing their PE Kit and trainers. I have asked Ms Steph & Ms Giulia to ask children not in the correct clothing, to sit out of the lesson. Your children need to be able to move freely and safely in dance – if you are unsure when dance lessons are, please ask your Homeroom Teacher.

End of Unit 2 Reports

As we fast approach the start of Unit 3, parents will be able to download their child’s End of Unit 2 report from 18th December. To access these please login to ManageBac and enter your child’s Portfolio.

Free Dress

Grade 6 Transition Lessons in Grade 7

Transition-to-secondary-school

Our third experience for Grade 6 students to trial a lesson in Middle School will take place on Tuesday 3rd December. So far Grade 6 have experienced a Science lesson, thought creatively about assessment criteria and began to understand how Middle school develops on from PYP. If you have any questions about your child’s journey into Middle School please do not hesitate to contact myself or Ms Karen Lockett – the MYP Coordinator. You can also find our presentation on the transition process on Class Dojo or through the Files page on ManageBac Parents Page.

International Schools Assessment in Grade 4, 5 and 6

On 10th February 2020 Grade 4-6 will sit an International Assessment in reading, writing and mathematics. This is a standardized test which indicates your child’s level compared to all students who took the test. From December, Homeroom Teachers will start to send home homework in order to get used to the speed of the test and what is expected. More information will follow closer to the date.

And Finally…

A reminder that Early Years parents are invited to the EY Winter Show on 13th December in the Gymnasium. Grade 2-6 parents are required to book a ticket from the school Box Office for the Elementary Show on 11th December. A communication via Class Dojo and ManageBac gives the details of the show. Entrance to the show is by ticket only therefore please make sure you have booked a seat in order not to be disappointed on the day.

Both shows are part of a Fund Raising Project for ALICE FOR CHILDREN where we aim to raise enough money to send an entire class of Kenyan children to school for the year.
Thank you to everyone for their kind donations so far and a big thank you to our sponsor GIACOMELLI LANDSCAPE & GARDEN DESIGN.
