Thank you very much to the ISC community for attending our performances of Lend a Helping Hand and Annie Meets Oliver. All the PYP children worked extremely hard for the shows and it was an absolute delight to see them perform last week. A huge congratulations to the children and the ISC Teaching Team for all their hard work. I wonder what next year’s themes will be?!
Teacher Appointment: Elementary Coordinator
I would like to congratulate Mr. Clutterbuck for his appointment as Elementary Coordinator from January 2019. Mr. Clutterbuck applied and interviewed for the post where he demonstrated his excellent organisational skills and his ability to lead and motivate a team. Mr. Clutterbuck will support me with the PYP in the Elementary section of the school, he will help to drive the move to the Enhanced PYP and will take responsibility for devising our marking and feedback philosophy. I am very excited to have Mr. Clutterbuck on the Primary Management Team and I wish him luck in the role.
Upcoming Parent Workshops in January
We have a number of exciting workshops coming up in January for PYP Parents. On January 8th at 08:50 we start the year with Assessment in the PYP. This workshop is for all PYP parents but will focus primarily on assessment in Grade 2-6. The workshop will explain the different types of assessment in the PYP to help parents understand how our assessment policy comes to life in the classroom. The workshop will also explain more about Cycle Assessments in Grade 5 & 6.
On January 22nd at 08:50 we continue with Language in the PYP. This will be an interactive and busy session focusing on Phonics in the Early Years, Guided Reading, Words their Way Spelling and of course the Lucy Calkins Writing Programme. I strongly advise new parents or parents with questions about our Language Programme to attend this workshop as we will be exploring in depth how we approach language teaching and learning at ISC.
On January 17th at 08:30 our Italian teachers will lead a workshop on the 5° Elementare Exam. This workshop is primarily for Grade 5 & 6 parents as the teachers will outline the exam and how to prepare for it, however of course all parents are welcome.
I look forward to seeing you at our workshops in 2019!
Student Teachers: Educators Abroad
Sadly we must say goodbye to Madeline Koble who has made an excellent contribution to Grade 6 and the ISC Community. But whilst we say farewell, we also say “welcome” to Miss Hope Johnson into Grade 5C and Miss Maggie Lief into Grade 3H. They join us from January 7th and will stay for twelve weeks under the Educators Abroad Programme. We are sure they will bring many strengths to the ISC Community and we wish them luck on their final placement ahead of graduating as qualified teachers. Our next set of student teachers will arrive in March 2019.
ISC Guidelines and Policies
I would like to kindly remind you that all ISC Policies can be downloaded from the PYP Parents Page of ManageBac. If you would like to explore for example, our Assessment, Homework, Technology Use policies these can all be downloaded from ManageBac and I am happy to answer any questions you have on these policies through email or in a meeting.
I would like to wish the entire ISC Community a beautiful start to 2019 and I am really looking forward to the PYP adventures which are upcoming in the new year. With best wishes for a safe and happy holiday.
