Welcome to the next edition of the PYP Blog and what a busy start to term 3 we have had!
Grade 5 & 6 Residential Trips
Our grade 5 and grade 6 students made their parents, teachers and the school very proud in the way they conducted themselves on the residential trips this week. From mini beast hunting to exploring the Vatican City, they actively engaged in the activities and added depth to their understanding of their unit of inquiries. Thank you to all parents for their support of these trips.
G3-6 Sports Day: Change of Date
As Sports Day was postponed due to bad weather, we have a new data (weather permitting) of Monday, May 20. We do hope that as many parents as possible will be able to attend to support their child in the activities. There will be a parent race at the end so please come prepared!!! A communication with timings will be sent out via email however we aim to start at 09:00.
Ensuring our teachers receive up to date IB training is an important part of school life at ISC. As the PYP review is now complete, there are a wealth of online courses which provide teachers with more information about the programme. We have many teachers who started online courses this week and after 4 weeks (and successful completion) will receive an IB Certification. The teachers will then feedback to all PYP teachers about their course so we can all acquire new knowledge. My role is to support the teachers to ensure they complete each task within the four modules and have the necessary tools to do so. The courses selected are: Making space for inquiry, The Exhibition, Curriculum access, Music and Inquiry, Concept Driven Learners and Symbolic languages in the Early Years. Good luck to those teachers on their professional development journey.
IB Self Study
A reminder for parents involved in the Self Study that we would like to hold our next evidence collection meeting after the Coffee Morning on May 14. I would be very grateful if as many parents from Standard C3 could attend so we can develop our bank of evidence on teaching and learning. Thank you very much for the time you are devoting to this important school improvement process.
Upcoming Parent Workshop
On Tuesday, May 21 at 08:50 we have our final PYP Parent Workshop based on the Student Led Conferences. If you would like to know more about the event and the role of the parent within the Conferences, please attend the meeting or download the presentation from the ManageBac Parents Page.
Grade Six Graduation
On Monday June 17 at 14:00 I warmly invite the Grade Six parents to their child’s graduation from the Primary Years Programme. Following the Exhibition and the 5° Elementare Exam, we host a celebration/graduation for our students to celebrate their achievements across the PYP and to recognise the important steps they will take over the summer to transition into Middle School. A formal invitation (with two tickets per student) will be sent home to Grade 6 parents in the upcoming weeks.
Whilst on their residential trip to Rome, students participated in a workshop with the Hazel Hut teachers on Action. They focused on how action has to be part of who they are and what in fact meaningful action might look like during the Exhibition. In the last two weeks, students will be preparing their presentations and planning, taking and reflecting on action. I would love to see a record breaking turnout of parents for our Exhibition this year from across all grade levels. Please save the date: 29th May 2019. There will be three possible time slots to see the Exhibition: 09:30-11:00, 11.30 – 12.30 and 14:00 – 15:30.
