Winter Shows

The children are very excited to present their hard work to you at their Winter Shows.  I welcome you to complete the Doodle Poll Ticket Booking for the show as without this booking you may not be able to enter due to a set number of seats for fire regulation purposes.  You can find all the information for the Doodle Polls on Class Dojo – Class Story.  On Monday 10th December I will send tickets home with your child and will release any extra tickets which have not been booked.  A reminder that 2 tickets per family have been allocated.

Community Updates

When we all work in partnership our community grows stronger and I would like to thank those parents who demonstrate this philosophy in multiple ways.  I would like to share some updates on staffing in our ISC Community.

Mrs Claire Clutterbuck, our Grade 2-6 Art Teacher has begun her maternity leave slightly earlier than planned.  I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all parents who have supported Mr. and Mrs Clutterbuck over the past weeks.  Being brand new to Italy, I know that the help and guidance that has been given to the Clutterbucks has made them feel loved and supported.  I would like to thank the Grade 4 parents in particular for all they are doing.  Mrs Clutterbuck’s Art lessons will be taken by Louise Norman who is our Early Years Art teacher.  Ms Norman comes with a broad range of experience in teaching Art and even has a book published on teaching Art in schools and I am certain your children will learn a lot from her lessons.

It is with regret that I inform you Ms Robinson, our Grade 6 teacher, will be leaving the ISC Community at the end of the term.  We were shocked and disappointed by Ms Robinson’s decision to leave during the school year however in the spirit of the Learner Profile, we cannot prevent her from following her ambitions to teach in the Southern Hemisphere where the school year operates from January-January.  After extensive recruitment, Mr. Bryan Gibson will join ISC in January and will lead the Grade 6 class through the rest of the year.  Mr. Gibson comes with a wealth of experience teaching Grade 6 and will complete the handover process with Ms Robinson when he visits the school next Tuesday – Friday.  He will use the time to get to know the children and learn the daily routines of the school.

Back to Learning Day

It was a pleasure to welcome so many “students” to Back to Learning Day.  It was fantastic to see everyone involving themselves in the activities and being part of the PYP.  For those parents who attended, I hope you found it informative and fun!  Pre K, Kinder, Transition and G2 will have their Back to Learning Day in January.  We will also be holding other events during the year where you will be invited to observe a specific part of the PYP such as Language, investigating the Key Concepts.  There will also be the Student Led Conferences on May 24th 2019 and more information on this will be given in future Newsletters and through a Parent Workshop.

Grade 2-6 Unit 3 Newsletters

It is incredible that Unit 3 has come around so quickly!  Your children’s third unit will begin from December 10th starting with Tuning into the Central Idea and exploring the Key Concepts and Approaches to Learning which will be used within the inquiry journey. On the ManageBac PYP Parents Page (from Monday 10th) you will find the Unit 3 Newsletters for your child’s grade level.  The Newsletters give you the details for the unit, the objectives for Maths and Language and a summary of what your child will be inquiring into in the different subject areas which connect to the Central Idea.  There are also suggestions of how to help your child at home and a summary of the upcoming important events.  I hope you find these helpful.  For help logging in to ManageBac please see Mr. Humphrey or email him at lhumphrey@iscomo.com
